Fix a Troublesome PDF
If you are making a project or cropping a piece and the app closes, the PDF pages are blank, or text is missing/funny looking after you make a project, you have hit a snag with the PDF system. The most important thing is to make sure you are updated to the OS and knitCompanion. If you still experience an issue after creating a new project after making sure both your device and knitCompanion are the latest version, there is an easy fix.
On your iPad:
- Take a screenshot of the pdf page. How to take a screenshot
- View the image.
- Tap the Share button in the top menu bar and select Print.
- Use 2 fingers and spread them apart on the small image being shown in the Print dialog.
Show Me - Tap the Share button again (now for the corrected PDF) and select knitCompanion.
- Use the new PDF you have created with kC and your problem will be solved!
On a PC, use Adobe Reader and a free PDF print driver such as PrimoPDF or CutePDF:
- From your PC, open the PDF in question in Adobe.
- Tap Print and then under Advanced select Print as Image.
- Select Primo or Cute as your print driver (this will produce a NEW PDF file instead of printing to paper).
- Select On Screen Viewing as your desired target (this is especially easy in Primo).
- Use the new PDF you have created with kC and your problem will be solved!
On a Mac, use Automator:
- Open Automator and create a new workflow.
- Workflow Step 1: "Get Specified Finder Items" (enter original PDF file here).
- Workflow Step 2: "Render PDF Pages as Images" (select 150-200dpi and maximum compression).
- Workflow Step 3: "New PDF from Images" (enter a new name for your regenerated PDF).
- Run Workflow.
- Save Workflow for future use.
- Use this new PDF with knitCompanion and your problem will be solved!
On a PC, use Adobe Reader and a free PDF print driver such as PrimoPDF or CutePDF Writer.
- From your PC, open the PDF in question in Adobe or Primo.
- Tap Print, under Advanced select Print as Image.
- Select Primo or Cute as your print driver. This will produce a new PDF file instead of printing to paper.
- Select On Screen or eBook viewing as your desired target (if you are using a different system and need to set a customized resolution, use ~150 DPI as a target).
- Use the new PDF you've created with kC and your problem will be solved!
